Beginner’s Guide to Quilting is a practical course which teaches the essentials of quilt making from the basics up; no previous quilting knowledge is required. The course material includes streaming videos of Elizabeth demonstrating the techniques and projects, as well as PDF downloads, which together form a comprehensive study guide showing you how to master the techniques and complete the projects.
Week 1: Intro & English Paper Piecing
Learn the traditional hand-piecing technique of English Paper Piecing. Project: Hexagon Needle Book.
Week 2: Hand Quilting
Learn the basics of hand quilting. Project: Seed-head Table Mats.
Week 3: Using Precuts
Learn how to use pre-cut-fabric packs for easy piecing. Project: Charm Pack Car Quilt.
Week 4: Applique
Learn different techniques for applique, a technique often used in quilting. Project: Quilted Box.
Week 5: Machine Quilting
Learn machine-quilting techniques for quick quilting. Project: Log Cabin Wall Hanging.
Week 6: Half-square Triangles and Free-motion Quilting
Learn how to make half-square triangles and explore free-motion quilting. Project: Quilted Bookmarks.
Beginner’s Guide to Quilting is one of our instructor-led courses, which means it has a fixed start date (27th January 2014) and runs for a specified period (six weeks). It’s led by Elizabeth Betts, to whom you’ll have direct access for the duration of the course. Week by week she’ll answer your questions and give you personalized feedback on your assignments.
