About Sew Need a Drink (and Lou!)

I am a local mum of two and sewing has been a constant love in my life!

I am a qualified FE teacher (literacy) who specialised in family learning and teaching teenagers helping me to develop lots of patience.  When I was given the chance to change careers, I decided to merge my two passions - teaching and sewing.  I have been ‘officially’ teaching sewing since 2015.

I know that many of you (like me!) are running around helping other family members to do what they want which means that often you don't get a chance to sit, chat and try something new yourself.

My aim is to make it as easy as possible for you to do this - there is no homework and no materials to buy beforehand.......just turn up, drink coffee, eat cake, chat, create and leave with a something you can show off to the family!

My little studio is based in the historic Via Gellia Mills (where Viyella originates) in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales countryside.  In quiet moments, you can hear the birds tweeting outside!

What I offer

  • Absolute beginner, intermediate, more experienced and family learning workshops.

  • Time to learn how to use a sewing machine.

  • Individual project workshops (evening and daytime), one-to-one tuition and party hire.

  • Group size of no more than 8 so that you receive lots of attention.

  • A prepared kit for each advertised workshop containing everything you need (fabrics usually already cut out)

  • Use of a Janome 230DC sewing machine each

  • Lots of homemade cake and refreshments.

  • Original projects including giftware, homeware or accessories - great if you want to try out patchwork techniques, free motion embroidery or new materials such as cork or faux leather.
