About: Established in 2016 by Kathleen Anderson, Cowden Quilt School is where beginners become quilters and new quilters grow in confidence. Kathleen specialises in teaching beginners and supporting new quilters to learn more skills.Kathleen offers regular classes, courses and sewcials from her cosy home-from-home studio in the East Leicestershire countryside as well as other local locations and Leicester City Centre, where she is a guest tutor at the University of Leicester's Attenborough Arts Centre. Kathleen also hosts several annual quilting retreatsin the pretty market town of Uppingham, Rutland - nestled in the heart of England between Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.Kathleen designs easy-to-follow, modern patterns for beginners and new quilters which are available to buy and download instantly from her website. Kathleen also designs regularly for Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine and is a guest designer on Sewing Street, a dedicated sewing TV show available live and on on-demand online.

About Crafty Sew & So:

Crafty Sew & So is a modern, independent fabric and sewing studio focused on bringing you beautiful dressmaking fabrics, inspiring sewing patterns and all the essential haberdashery you need.

We love sharing the joy of sewing in our in-person and online sewing and dressmaking classes aimed at complete beginners through to more advanced sewists. Can’t making it to the studio? We sell our own range of patterns and kits based on our popular workshops, for you to enjoy at home!

Our studio is based in the Makers Yard, a beautiful, listed building which was once Leicester’s first hosiery factory, in the cultural quarter of Leicester.

We are surrounded by cafes, galleries and places of interest to visit!

We would love to see you at a workshop or at one of our monthly open days, or alternatively we sell all of our fabrics, haberdashery and patterns online.

What we offer:

We host a range of sewing and craft workshops throughout the year, from beginners dress making to classes that teach new techniques such as sewing baby clothes with jersey or jeans making. We’re introducing some new classes into the timetable including Rag Rugging with Ragged Life and Pattern cutting with Cath, an London college of Fashion tutor and professional pattern cutter.

All of our classes are regularly updated on the Crafty Sew & So website and taught by expert teachers from across the sewing community.
